Is the website you are visiting takes forever to load? Do you find watching videos on YouTube an annoying experience? Slow to intermittent internet connection can really be a huge problem. As a matter of fact, you are not alone in this problem, many people across US and UK are experiencing the exact same dilemma.

There are a great number of households in the US where they are experiencing slower speeds compared to what exactly their internet service providers are promoting or advertising. This is in line with the speed test results provided by the online speed test site – Speedtest.net.

In a recent research conducted, one of the worst internet service providers reported is Clear Wireless. Clear Wireless is a Bellevue broadband wireless carrier which was a brainchild of a telecommunications mogul.

Clear Wireless was eventually acquired by Sprint, and they are no longer in operation. In a speed test conducted by Ookla, they found out that Clear’s speed was pegged at -41% which is too far below what they have previously advertised to their customers.

Next in line as the second slowest US internet service provider is the Arkansas carrier called the Windstream Communications. Windstream Communications landed the second spot because their speeds fell approximately 30% of what is expected from them.

On the contrary, the most accurate internet service provider on the list was the South Dakota Midcontinent Communications. Midcontinent Communications offer +8% above of what they purportedly advertised and which many clients expect to be way faster.

The remaining major US internet service providers are listed with their respective percentages below:

  1. CenturyLink: -17%
  2. AT&T U-verse: -8%
  3. Verizon FIOS: +2%
  4. Comcast: -2%
  5. Time Warner Cable: -1%

Oftentimes, these internet service providers are made hot topics on social media because they fail to deliver the kind of speeds that they have promised to provide as per their advertisements.

If you look at the data closely, you can see that the actual figures are in fact appalling, especially for households in Idaho. There are 3 major cities in the state that are experiencing very slow speeds than what the carriers advertised, they are Idaho Falls, Twin Falls, and Pocatello. Speeds were far from what is advertised and were actually pegged at -50 percent, -46 percent and -41 percent.

As for the best locations to live where there’s great internet access, you can choose between Sierra Vista in Arizona which is at +8%; and Clearwater In Florida which is at +6%. In Washington, there are 3 cities that offer speeds as promoted in Olympia, Lynnwood and Yakima. Pullman is the lowest at -25 percent and Seattle falls at -14% of the expectations.

Slow internet speeds can be very disheartening, but you can do something about it. In order to prevent this from happening, there are a few things you may do to improve the performance of your computer as well as speed up your internet connection.

First, check the internet options in your location. There may be something faster than what subscribers customarily have, check with your carrier regarding these available options.

Second, make sure you keep your computer in good shape. Always scan it for viruses, spyware, and malware regularly, like weekly, and then defragment your computer to free up space, and finally close or uninstall whatever available programs that you have installed which you may not need.

Check your modem to see if it is working properly. If not, reset your modem. Sometimes the router or wireless modem may not connect or function at optimal speeds. You may reset your connection by simply unplugging the router, then wait for at least 30 seconds and then plug it right back. Be sure to keep your router as close to your computer as much as possible. The more space between your computer and your router, the longer it will take for pages to load or for your internet to connect.

Configure the antenna of your router, set it well so that it appears vertical. By doing so, you will have faster access to the internet with as little interruptions as possible from the carrier. Make sure that the wire connecting the router to your computer is as short as it can be. Less wiring means there is lesser time it will take for the information to travel from your router to your computer.

You can also download software that will speed up your connection such as Speed Connect. The software is a free software and will not need specialized or any technical knowledge to set up, and is sure to speed up your connection significantly. Check if your modem is near your PC, if it’s not make sure it is because it will not work as efficiently as expected if not set up accordingly.

Thankfully, there are reliable business broadband providers in UK. You can rest assure that you get fast and dependable business broadband so you get to enjoy internet speeds exactly as promised.
